What this calculator does
The Weibull hazard function is h(t) = (β/η)(t/η)^(β−1). It estimates the instantaneous failure intensity conditional on survival to age t.
When to use it
Use it to discuss age-related risk, inspection timing, or whether a failure mode shows early-life, random, or wear-out behavior.
Inputs and formula
β below one indicates declining intensity, β near one constant intensity, and β above one increasing intensity. η and age require identical time units.
Worked example and interpretation
With β = 2, η = 1,000 hours, and age 500 hours, the hazard is 0.001 failures per hour. It is not the chance of failure over the next hour; probability requires integrating across a mission.
Practical notes and limitations
