What this calculator does

The calculator turns a quantity of ready maintenance labor hours into a crew-week measure. It gives planning teams a common way to see the relationship between accumulated demand and capacity.

When to use it

Use it in weekly planning or capacity review. It works best when job plans are estimated, materials and permits are addressed, and work is approved enough to be scheduled.

Inputs and formula

Backlog hours are planned labor hours; weekly capacity is usable labor hours, after realistic deductions. Backlog weeks = ready labor hours ÷ weekly available labor hours

Worked example and interpretation

1,200 ready labor hours and 320 available hours per week yields 3.75 weeks. That is not a target by itself: the right range depends on outage strategy, work mix, risk, and demand volatility.

Practical notes and limitations

Separate reactive, preventive, corrective, project, and compliance work. Counting all open requests as backlog overstates executable demand; ignoring work that is waiting on scope or materials hides the constraint. Pair this result with planning quality and schedule compliance measures.
